The Flying Ship is a fairy tale from Andrew Lang’s Yellow Fairy Book (1894). This particular story has similar versions in Russian folklore. Lang gathered stories from Hungary, Poland, Russia, Germany, France, and England. The entire Yellow Fairy Book contains 48 stories and is narrated in clear and lively prose. The Flying Ship teaches readers lessons about friendship and positive thinking. It also has the beautiful whimsy of traditional folklore, which many modern fairy tales seem to lack.
